Intel X86 motherboard design is completely independent development of X86 Hi-end motherboard experience three years ago, based on which, cooperated with Asrock in the full IO linear motherboard. It is the full IO linear motherboard with the probability of all motherboards in the industry less than 1%.

 

Because of the completion of linearization of the motherboard for deep HIFI modification, high speed signal does not pay attention to the problem of low noise for consumption motherboard , which greatly improve the audio noise absorption capacity. Current problems with music replay

 

Linux or closed webcasts generally only support offline stereo music, with single functions. You need to learn for the first time and download music independently.

For the current HD native playback solutions, only a small part of digital music can be played in HD format, which causes obvious experience problems for users and a lot of high quality music can not be easily listened to, especially for high fidelity playback. Traditional PC hosts suffer from the sound quality of hi-fi music replay due to the consumption design, serious noise and high  time delay affecting the whole decoded sound at the back end.

 

As a manufacturer of network players for 10 years, it owns the patent of FPGA and core architecture for audio playback. It has rich audio protocol implementation and deep understanding of the whole layer of low-level playback. Because of the major defects of digital music replay, we know that audio replay is not a single system, and it must be optimized as a whole and from the beginning to achieve the best effect of sound restoration. Soundaware's ARM+FPGA has carried out in-depth optimization of ARM since 2013. It was not until 2017 that the pure linear version of the fourth generation CPU and the power level ultranapacitive power supply were launched that the D300Ref reference level product was produced. Over time, the demand for all-in-one, all-in-one high-definition PCM&DSD audio or audio-visual combination reference-level playback has increased, and there is no perfect solution on the market. The company was originally engaged in Android development before 2015, hoping that Android could support the audio fully native driver channel in the future, but after several years of waiting finally disappointed, after applying to become an official partner of Intel motherboard in 2018, we entered the real X86 HiFi +Windows motherboard research and development.

Optimization Starts with the Motherboard

 

Only the motherboard of the processor X86 can support the windows operating system,and for good sound, USB or network port output must be clean enough, low latency and high stability. In technical terms, it is USB, network interfaces require very low noise levels, as well as very low response latency and response latency stability. Because digital audio replay itself only begins to filter out noise above 20kHz in the audio region, and most filters begin to filter above 30kHz, noise below 20kHz will be transmitted directly to the analog signal through the power supply, other signals, or radiated interference in the machine, thus affecting the distortion and listening sensation.

 

For consumption motherboards, because of the need to pursue energy efficiency, and high frequency digital circuits of low-frequency noise (100 KHZ and below) are not sensitive,now the consumption level of the mainboard are all made of switch power supply as well as all the voltage regulator chip of switch type, whichever interface, noise in the audio area is very large, especially the noise of the audio area, the motherboard is barely processed. Now on the motherboard even if the use of super current capacitor, the first level of filtering is only about 500uF, for more than 3A electricity demand, it will produce a large number of noise in audio area . Additional with the pursuit of cost, normally the noise is too big that it can only maintain the normal operation of the digital circuit. In order to pursue the function and save the design cost, the hardware function is difficult to give full play , so the delay of the audio related interface becomes uncertain, and the noise directly affects the interface, resulting in very bad sound.

 

To meet HIFI requirements, the audio area must be noise-reduced from the interface signal and power supply, otherwise the audio area noise will be carried directly into the analog signal and will not be filtered out. At the same time, the high efficiency and stability of the interface request must give full play to the limit performance of the hardware from the motherboard design level. turn off irrelevant peripherals, perform in-depth audio-level optimization from the BIOS and operating system, achieve reference-level performance, professional audio processing,by which to achieve ultra-low response time and response high stability of over time.

 

 

From Self-developed Motherboards to Cooperative Motherboards and Power Supply Systems

Nowadays, consumption motherboards are overly pursuing high efficiency and cost-effective power supply, it will not use ultra-low noise linear power for voltage conversion and power supply. All interface output power and signals of the single-power-supply motherboard are from the switching power supply voltage conversion chip, which cannot meet any requirements of HIFI at all. so the native power supply of the ATX interface becomes the only hope. However, as the power consumption of CPU and graphics card is getting higher and higher,, the power consumption of motherboard is also higher and higher. ATX power supply has been unable to meet any mainstream motherboard power supply needs. With the advent of ATX12 standard, almost all power supply needs of the motherboard are now from 12V through the switching power supply voltage conversion chip. The problem is similar to that of single power supply. Basically, more than 99% of the output interface IO power supply and 5V power supply of the motherboard are not directly from the ATX interface, so it is impossible to talk about the linearization of the output interface and the low-noise power supply.

 

Fortunately, the company searched the motherboard libraries of several major brands in this field. finally, when we searched the motherboard library of Asrock, we found that there were several motherboards that might be close to our requirements. After site verification, it was found that when the linear IO requirements were fully met, other aspects also exceeded the company's imagination. USB can be independently powered, separated from the 5V (HDMI, etc.) power supply of the motherboard, and it was an ultra-low power TDP 10W CPU motherboard.

 

Finally, after months of difficult negotiations with Asrock, the company reached an agreement based on the Intel motherboard partner's qualifications, details of Intel CPU design and experience in the design and production of X86 motherboards. The company is responsible for the deep transformation of the secondary HIFI of the motherboard, and Asrock is responsible for the technical support. In addition, BIOS was optimized and designed according to SoundAware requirements.

D1 motherboard is only a consumer level design, achieving full linearization and independent USB power supply are just the basis., there is still a long way to go to fully meet the AMC flagship sound quality requirements, based on the motherboard design and chip manual, we carried out a deep HIFI transformation of Asrock motherboard.

 

Deep optimization of high-power power supply circuit, replacing high-performance capacitors and increasing large-capacity capacitors, which can greatly reduce the low-frequency noise generated by high-power electric circuit including DDR, CPU, GPU and so on.

 

Enhance power supply for PLL and low voltage IO, and replace higher performance components.

 

Cut the unused motherboard accessories power.

 

The only vertical memory module with large EMI is fully copper shielded, and the motherboard is shielded.

 

 

USB Audio performs two times filtering and noise processing to isolate the impact of USB peripherals, and the special shielding 5N single crystal copper causes optimization of noise and improves sound quality.

Through the above optimization, the noise of USB Audio to the ground is reduced by at least 50% with ATX power supply, especially at higher load, and the noise level is more stable, and the noise in the audio area is also greatly reduced. TD1 Power System

 

After the deep transformation of HIFI, the D1 motherboard can fully realize the linear power supply of IO, especially USB independent 5V power supply, so the whole power design is very significant.

 

After six revisions, all kinds of pressure, performance and abnormal tests, Soundaware ATX fully meets the ATX standard, single output is maximum 15A with adjustment rate of 2% and below, high power ultra-low noise (about 1mV),  all kinds of perfect protection (high temperature, short circuit, low voltage, overpressure) and alarm. Rectifier, filter and voltage regulator are designed independently with high power and high current support. As we all know, when it is above 10a, the rectifier generates huge heat, and the ATX motherboard has three channels of super current power supply. If the heat is integrated on the filter board, it will cause the heat of the filter board to rise sharply. Therefore, the rectifier board is integrated on the motherboard separately to use the bottom reflector to dissipate heat, while the high-power voltage regulator power tube collects heat on the radiator end. In this way, the overall temperature of the filter board is extremely low, which is basically significantly lower than 60 degrees. This creates conditions for the filter board to use some reference level audio capacitors, which also leads to the arrival of luxury product.

 

The whole machine is close to the first and second filter capacitors of 200,000 uf, and the second filter capacitors of 20000uF level of the voltage regulator, which ensures the super-large current and ultra-low noise. The addition of luxury and customized reference capacitors and materials makes the luxury version more standard. The version has more excellent music appeal and resilience, and the standard version also uses all advanced audio materials to meet the high requirements of AMC D1.

 

For luxury and customized versions, for only about 30W motherboard and peripherals, the rated margin of the whole machine is more than 10 times, and the instantaneous margin is more than 100 times. This is also the luxury design of real flagship products.

 

Amazing Test Results

 

Based on the combination of luxury power supply and hifi motherboard, the USB output power noise of AMC D1 customized version (only system disk is installed) is 8 times higher than that of AMC D1, especially in the case of high pressure, the difference is more obvious, even up to 15 times at one time. The noise of AMC D1 USB power supply is even lower than that of a computer host USB when it is turned off, only less than 1mV RMS higher than that of the environment when the power cable is removed.

Do I need to buy a high performance interface to match with AMC D1?

 

Generally speaking, the USB interface of high-end DACs released in the last two or three years is generally good, and you don't need to buy it in principle. If it is an early USB high-end DAC or a high-end DAC without USB function, it is recommended to buy D300Ref or a top grade interface to improve the sound quality of the DAC. AMC is mainly to give full play to the best performance of USB, so it is unrecommended to buy an interface first. Connect the existing device first to listen whether the sound is satisfied, if the sound is dynamic, analysis and sound field are normal, then you can purchase.


What details should be paid attention to in order to get good sound quality in D1?

 

If the DAC has USB and wired network interface,give priority to USB + fever HIFI-level USB2.0 cable, because when the delay is lower and the efficiency is higher,  the DAC plays better. If it is a network interface, it is unrecommended to string into a general consumer level router or switch. Direct connection is recommended. If you must connect to a switch, it is recommended to use a HiFi level switch. If you need D1 to be stored via USB extension or external optical drive, it is strongly recommended to use CD-One and other HIFI modified power supply and peripherals, which will not cause pressure and influence on the existing power supply. If you need access to the keyboard and mouse,you can use the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse function of this machine, and wireless access is the best.

 

I currently have a HIFI webcast turntable and DAC solution, as well as a rooncore host, nas, HIFI switch, and a fever grade network cable. I always feel that the system is complicated. How can I optimize it with AMC?

 

There are two options:

 

If you have a Roon Life Membership account, you can continue to use Roon, if your decoding is a relatively new decoding and your USB design is good, you can connect the USB DAC to AMC D1 via a HiFi-grade USB cable and install RoonCore on the D1, which can eliminate the transporter and the RoonCore host. At the same time, your music can also be stored completely by AMC instead of on NAS, so the sound will be better. Try to use enterprise-grade hard drives when buying hard drives.

 

If you only use roon temporarily, it is not recommended to use Roon's decoding scheme directly. It is better to put your music directly on the AMC. At the same time, software such as jriver or hqplayer can manage music and set it to self-start, mobile phone Install the client to control and play.  If your DAC has USB input, you can use a HiFi-rated USB cable to connect to the USB DAC, or use an AES/IIS via the transporter to connect the DAC. In this way, no need music NAS, Rooncore host, HIFI switch, fever network cable and so on. 

 

 

 

I just plan to use D1 to listen to offline and online app music. Although the windows system is very powerful and it has been mentioned in the introduction, I still insist on how to operate when there is no screen. Can you tell me something about it?

 

If you use D1 for offline music playing and management, it is recommended to download windows software with remote control such as jriver/hq/roon, and use the software on windows.  As the music server, so that it can be started by the mobile phone client after setting the auto-start End-to-end control and playback are very convenient.. If you want to play online music, such as Tidal, Quboz, etc., it is recommended to use remote desktop control. If it is a niche music platform without Windows software, it is recommended to stream to HQPlayer, Jriver, Foobar and other software through DLNA function, which is also native playback.


Many HiFi hosts currently use X86 motherboards + linear power + Windows, although I can see that SoundAware has done a lot of work in this regard, can you summarize the differences?

 

In general, we should look at it from three aspects:

 

System genuine optimization.

Mainboard linearization, mainboard secondary HIFI transformation,and the BIOS optimization with the motherboard. Is ATX supplied by pure linear power or single power line.

 

The most important thing for the optimization of the system is genuine and simplified configuration,, because the more streamlined, the lower the hardware consumption. But it must be genuine to meet the needs of application operation, stability and security. Very few ATX motherboards are linearized, which is estimated to be about 0.1%. The linearized motherboards are the signals of I0 interfaces such as music USB and the output power supply is completely linear and direct. This choice is very difficult, and most motherboards do not support it. At this point, non-ATX power supply and most of the motherboard power supply that cannot be linearized with line electricity because the low noise of line electricity can not be used, the motherboard is full of switching power supply DC-DC voltage regulator, audio area noise is very harmful to audio.

 

Second step, even if it can realize ATX linearization of the motherboard (such as the original mainboard D1), the line to the electricity still can not meet the real HIFI demand, because the actual test under the noise is still high, and the consumer motherboard design is not consider the noise in the audio area. These noises are caused by the CPU, GPU, and memory power-consuming devices on the motherboard PCB. It's like you have a private line in your house, but if you put the refrigerator and the TV on the same line, it will still seriously affect your private line. so you need a second deep HIFI transformation of the motherboard, isolation, nearby power to reduce the impact, increase the margin, reduce EMI radiation, and optimize the BIOS. The list must be carried out with the motherboard chip design data and instruments.

 

Finally, lets talk about the power supply, single power supply has no significance to discuss, because the motherboard certainly cannot achieve linearization, both 5V and 3.3V are through the switching power supply DC-DC voltage regulation, noise is very large. Even linearization of low noise can not be done, optimization is out of the question. It is not easy to make ATX power supply well. Soundaware made seven adjustments and spent more than a year to optimize it. In addition to excellent noise control levels, precision, large current, tuning, good materials, and more importantly, safety. The safety mentioned here is not only the safety of the power supply (no sudden crash and occasional failure to start up, stable work under high load, various protection), but also how to make the capacitor cooler..
