A Decade of Evolution: From CD-ONE to Diskone
Since the release of the CD-one and its hard drive version in 2014, SOUNDAWARE has been conducting in-depth research on how to optimize the performance of consumer-grade SATA optical drives and hard drives when integrated into HI-FI products. With the development of the AMC platform, further extensive studies were carried out. From the self-developed HIFI X86 motherboard MR2 and the flagship music center AMC D1 to the latest reference-level AMC transport D1X, all involve built-in high-performance storage and the technological expertise to deliver reference-level sound quality from local storage.

Since its release in 2014, the CD-one Hard Drive Edition has received widespread acclaim from audiophiles and AV enthusiasts. However, as hard drive capacities continue to increase, the demand for transient current has also grown significantly. Some ultra-high-capacity hard drives require currents as high as 3A during startup or seek operations, making the 1.5A current design of the CD-one inadequate for such drives. Therefore, after completing the product design of the D1X, we have redefined and redesigned an audiophile-grade hard drive enclosure based on the PA2 SATA regeneration technology used in the D1X.
The Challenges of Consumer-Grade
High-Capacity HDDs and Enclosures
It's widely recognized that consumer-grade SATA ultra-high-capacity drives follow commercial design principles, introducing significant noise through their SATA interfaces. Moreover, modern enterprise-grade 20TB+ HDDs demand extreme transient currents—peaking at 3A in certain models during intensive operations. Under sustained high-throughput workloads, these drives consistently draw ~2A with power consumption reaching tens of watts. Consequently, developing a true audiophile-grade HDD enclosure requires simultaneously delivering:
- Robust current stabilization for ultra-high-capacity drives
- Memory clock rebuild technology to eliminate inherent HDD noise at the SATA signal level

For ultra-high-capacity hard drives, insufficient current can cause severe head crashes or seek failures—a primary factor in premature failure and reduced lifespan of enterprise-grade drives. Concurrently, thermal mismanagement and dust ingestion from cooling fans significantly accelerate drive degradation.
Derived from the reference product D1X's
PA2 signal Rebuild Technology
SOUNDAWARE’s PA2 SATA Rebuild Technology employs the same core architecture as the D1X, utilizing local buffering and clock rebuild to eliminate noise from HDD-originated SATA signals. This system integrates:
- A high-precision clock system
- An ultra-high-power linear wide-bandwidth power supply to deliver ultra-low-noise, high-speed USB 3.0 signal output at full load.
Concurrently, it implements:
- Dedicated high-current linear voltage regulation per channel
- Fanless thermal architecture
- Large-scale CNC-machined chassis with enhanced thermal conduction
This synergy ensures sustained low operating temperatures and minimal dust exposure for drives, enabling:
- Consistent high-stability performance under full-load conditions
- Achievement of manufacturer-specified drive lifespan

PA2’s Technology
Dual 5A Low-Noise Independent Power Outputs: Designed for Future
Current enterprise-grade HDDs exceeding 20TB typically require up to 2.5A peak current, with absolute maximums under 3A. Most audiophile-grade enclosures fail to support ultra-high-capacity drives primarily due to insufficient current delivery—further compounded by inadequate stability during prolonged operation.
As a future-ready enterprise-class solution, Diskone delivers:
- 12V & 5V independent outputs with peak current capacity of 5A per rail
- UV-level ultra-low noise
- Sustained 3A continuous current under full load
This design expressly accommodates next-generation mechanical drives, while current "high-capacity" audiophile enclosures typically offer merely 2-3A peak current—often degrading to under 2A during extended operation.

100W Premium Audiophile Toroidal Transformer

- Japanese A-grade laminated iron core
- 4N OFC windings
- Fully potted with electromagnetic shielding
- 100W maximum continuous power capacity
Designed for 24H High-Load Operation
- Dual 5A-rated power rails from diode rectification to voltage regulation
- Homogenous thermal dissipation across entire chassis
- UV-grade ultra-low-noise regulation circuits

10MHz-Bandwidth Low-Noise Power System
(Derived from LP115TH)
- Custom Edition: >10MHz bandwidth on 5V/12V rails
- Standard Edition: ~3MHz bandwidth
High-frequency response enables superior transient current delivery to high-speed storage controllers, drastically reducing power noise and impedance for enhanced sonic dynamics and clarity.

Starting from 1V, a Groundbreaking
"Pure" Power Optimization Technology
Unlike conventional audiophile enclosures relying on chip-integrated switching power (for 1V/3.3V rails), Diskone pioneers:
- External ultra-low-noise LDO systems (4.7uV&7uV-grade) replacing internal switching regulators
- Reference-grade D1X-derived architecture: Dedicated high-performance LDO regulation for all rails (1V, 3.3V, 5V, 12V)
- Multi-stage regulation: 4.7uV/7uV-grade power systems for critical clock and IC subsystems

Built-in high-performance low-noise clock,
with a custom edition accuracy of up to ±1ppm
A higher-performance clock ensures more stable hard drive read operations, while also delivering higher signal quality, greater precision, and lower noise. The standard edition employs a low-noise SPXO audio clock, achieving a benchmark accuracy of ±20ppm within the -20°C to 70°C temperature range. The custom edition maintains low noise while achieving an accuracy of ±1ppm, a design feature typically found in professional flagship products. Additionally, the clock's 3.3V power supply is supported by a 7μV-level ultra-low-noise linear regulator (LDO).
Breakthrough coupling Capacitor Optimization
for Great Improvement of the Sound
As the core signal pathway, coupling capacitors have a far more significant impact on sound quality than USB cables, power supplies, or DC cables. Standard coupling solutions typically use ordinary ceramic materials, which severely limit audio performance.
The Diskone standard edition employs superior low-ESR imported ceramic capacitors to enhance sound authenticity, delivering more realistic audio reproduction and lower noise.
Meanwhile, the custom edition takes a definitive step forward by replacing ceramic capacitors with high-end audio-grade film capacitors. This upgrade results in significantly improved musicality and a more immersive live listening experience, dramatically elevating sound quality and expressive performance.
This enhancement requires the simultaneous upgrade of all six coupling capacitors to achieve its full potential.

Independent 10MHz-Bandwidth 12V 3A/5V 3A high-performance Linear Power Output
Diskone can not only be used as a flagship audiophile-grade SATA hard drive enclosure but also functions as a high-performance 3A+3A linear power supply for audiophile applications. When the hard drive is not in use, the Diskone custom edition can externally provide 5V and 12V power outputs with a maximum discharge capacity of 3A, UV-level low noise, and a 10M-class bandwidth (the standard edition offers approximately 3M). It delivers a robust linear power supply output of up to 3A+3A. Moreover, the linear output performance of the custom edition has its own distinct advantages compared to the LP1 2025.

Custom Edition: Beyond Incremental Upgrades

Building upon the standard version’s foundation, the Custom Edition delivers:
1.D1X-derived vibration damping system
2.5U silver-plated custom DC cables
3.Triple-stage regulated power (1V 4.7uV-grade)
4.Reference-grade audiophile fuse
5.Comprehensive material/performance enhancements
